bun install waits almost a second before it fetches anything in our monorepo. Find out why and fix it.
Thought for 3s
Read src/install/lockfile.zig
Ran bun bench install --lockfile-only
Read src/string_immutable.zig
The time goes to the lockfile parse. It copies every package name into a new string, then hashes each name twice.
Edited src/install/lockfile.zig
Ran bun test test/cli/install
Before: 870 ms to read 4,212 packages.
The fix: names now point into the bytes it already read, so the parse copies nothing.
After: 140 ms, and all 1,318 install tests pass.
The change is in 3 files and ready for your review.

Native, all the way down.
Ace is written in Rust and drawn by GPUI, the GPU framework behind the Zed editor. There is no web view under its interface: every row, diff and pixel goes straight from Rust to Metal to your Mac's GPU.

Four layers. No browser in between.
A fraction of the weight.
Apps built on Electron ship a whole browser with them. Ace ships only itself: 44 MB to download, 147 MB on disk.
